Amateur RADIO will present a timeline of 100 years of radio

AMATEUR RADIO DEPARTMENT OF THE MASON COUNTY FAIR Dept "L"

DIRECTIONS:

From Olympia: US 101 Northbound (turn right just past Mud Bay Rd) toward Port Angeles. Bypass Shelton. Stay on US 101. On left just past Kneeland Boulevard and Wal-Mart. Just before the Airport. MP 345 - (US 101 counts down from Olympia thru Port Angeles to the Columbia River and Astoria.) Amateur Radio repeater 146.720 - 103.5

Dates: July 25 Wed Entries, 26 Thur Judging, 27-29 Fri, Sat, Sun Fair - (last full weekend of July)

Divisions: A. Adults 18 and up;   Y. Youth 13-17;   J. Junior 12 and under

Classes :

1 Antenna Construction - Complete antenna with written description including purpose

2 Circuit Construction - Electrical circuit such as transmitter, receiver, etc.

3 Accessories - To include keyers, speakers setup, tuner etc.

4 Educational Posters and Displays - Posters and display panels, art work, pictures new

5 Educational Devices - Practice keyers, code trainers, electronic circuit boards

6 Classic Radio Gear - Antique and classic radio gear

7 Special Station Setup - APRS, Packet, HF, Third Party,

Awards include:

Best of Division, Best of Class, Herdsmanship, People's Choice.

Herdsmanship goes to the club that does the best job of hosting the Department, Fri, Sat or Sun.

People's Choice as voted by viewers (daily count will go toward herdsmanship).

Judging Criteria includes age of exhibitor, complexity, mastery of materials, overall quality, attractiveness, clean and neat, usefulness. Entries may be whimsical or practical. Entrants are responsible for their own mountings. Each display needs a 3 x 5 card (put name on back) telling:

1. What it is, what makes it work, what it is supposed to do, etc.

2. When and where it is used

3. Source of design

4. Approximate cost of construction

5. Materials used

6. Is there a commercially made device that is similar and what does it cost?

Entries come in: Wednesday 4-7 pm or make other arrangements, Judging Thursday morning.

Entries picked up: Sunday after Fair closing time 7:15pm, or walk out 6pm

Activities:

Hands On Table: code, equipment, historical publications, home brew equipment

APRS Display: trackers moving around the fair grounds - draft horse wagons, water truck, garbage pickup cart, scouts backpack, or?

RDF Display: FOX with tracker. have radio direction finding antennas and receivers and search for FOX (might be tracker) (receivers preset, inexpensive, marked.)

Safety Patrol: Hams monitor simplex frequency and wander around the fair reporting any problems or looking for lost children, etc.

Traffic system: Send messages via ARES emergency station.

Kids Talk:  Kids talk third party on radio and receive a sticker.

QSO Party:  High frequency and VHF radio operation; public invited.

RAFFEL:  Buy a raffle ticket to win a quilt, embroidered with Morse code.                       Proceeds benefit Mason County ARES.
